Advice for Solo Travelers Being Picked up in Don Mueang

Solo travelers arriving in Bangkok for the first time may want some advice for being picked up at Don Mueang Airport. The pick-up area is downstairs outside each terminal’s front exits.

How to Pickup Directly at Don Mueang

Taking a Taxi to the City

There are taxi areas just outside both the domestic and international terminals at Don Mueang. The fee is typically around 300 to 500 baht. The price can be negotiated, or you can ask the taxi stand to call a taxi at a set rate. The taxis take the same Highway 31 mentioned above to get to the city. 

Should a guest wish to be taken to the eastern side of Bangkok, the driver may recommend taking one of the toll roads to that side of town. Travellers can simply say, “No, thank you,” or confirm that they’d like the driver to take the toll road for faster access. Passengers are responsible for toll fees in addition to the taxi fare. 

Picking Up 

Anyone arriving to pick someone up at Don Mueang airport should follow the signs to the arrivals level located downstairs. Drivers can idle their car and wait for ten or fifteen minutes without issue. Parking on the far left side closer to the exit doors is recommended so that other vehicles can enter and exit smoothly. 

Tips and Tricks for Bangkok Traffic

Bangkok traffic can be heavy heading into the city from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM and heading out of the city between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Outside of those hours, Bangkok traffic is reasonable, especially on the main highways.  

Please remember that Thailand drives on the left side of the road with the driver on the right-hand side of the car. First-time left-hand drivers should take a few moments to familiarise themselves with turn signals and wiper controls, as they are reversed from left-hand drive cars. 

The centre shifter in Thai cars is the same as in other countries, and the same is true for the shift pattern on manual transmission vehicles. Just take a minute to get used to using the left hand for shifting.
